Case Studies
Following delineates how Richweb helped some of our key clients
solve some of their most pressing problems:
 |
Orphan Foundation of America |
The Challenge:
Orphan Foundation of America
has the only national online mentoring program for foster teens.
While other virtual mentoring systems exist, they often lack the
required security, or do not provide a user-friendly, flexible interface.
OFA contracted with Richweb to build a virtual, web-based mentoring
program that would allow mentors and mentees to share files and messages
via a secure web interface. Not only would the program need to meet
these specific requirements but it also needed to be built in a relatively
short time period.
The Solution:
Richweb implemented web-based tools that allow prospective mentors
to apply online and case managers to refer foster youths via an online
referral form. The software matches screened and trained adult volunteer
mentors with these foster youth. Once matched, the mentor and mentee
can log onto a secure web interface where the two parties can exchange
messages and files.
The program began its roll out in late September 2003. Since that
time approximately 200 mentees have been matched with a mentor, and
nearly 13,000 messages have been sent using the system. Thus far,
the feedback from users has been very positive. As the program evolves,
Richweb continues to develop software features to meet their needs.

Center for Injury and Violence
Prevention |
The Challenge:
The Director of the
Sexual Violence Prevention Program of the Center for Injury and Violence
Prevention at the Virginia Department of Health wanted to create
an extensive website that would serve as a resource for those looking
for information pertaining to sexual violence and prevention. The
site not only needed to be well organized, which was a significant
challenge given the number of resources to be posted, but also needed
to have advanced search capabilities. Most of the resource lists
available at the time provided lists of titles, but often lacked
a thorough description of the resource or information that would
allow the reader to locate the material. The Director wanted a site
that would be user friendly to a wide variety of visitors.
The Solution:
Richweb
worked with the Director to create a web application to assist both
professionals and the general public access over 1300 different resources
pertaining to sexual violence and violence prevention. Richweb
created an advanced search engine that allows users to search by
a specific subject area of interest, by the intended audience for
the resource, or implement a simple a key word search. The
site provides a description for every resource, and information on
locating the materials. The easy to use back end will allow the director
and her team to continue to add resources as well as keep the current
resource information updated.

Inter-American Development Bank |
The Challenge:
The Inter-American Development Bank, the Central
and South American counter-part to the World Bank, required a more streamlined
solution for implementing its professional development and mentoring programs.
Their existing solution included collecting paper application forms from employees
interested in being a mentor or mentee. This solution proved to be cumbersome
and often resulted in the mentee being matched with a mentor unable to assist
in his/her specific development needs. IADB also needed to the site to be dual-language,
given that a large percentage of its population is Spanish-speaking.
The
Solution
Richweb
worked with Inter-American Development Bank to automate the application and
matching process, as well as implement a dual-two language site. Richweb created
tools that allow the Program Administrator to manage all website content, review
submitted web-based forms, and view best –possible match based on inputs
from the mentor and mentee application forms. The Administrator can also make
a match from within the web console, with email alerts being generated to the
matched pair notifying them of the match. Richweb is currently working with
the Bank to extend the software to integrate development planning tools that
will allow the mentor and mentee to set target goals and objectives based on
learning needs flagged during the application process.
